I have always been drawn to the formal forms in Ceramics. The lidded vessel can be found throughout the history of ceramics; from the classical shapes made by the ancient potters in China and Greece, to the contemporary work by Don Pilcher and Val Cushing. I divide the surface of the form in an attempt to achieve an aesthetic balance. I then use the Raku glazing process aware of it’s inherent unpredictability. This juxtaposition of formal and informal creates a unique resolution to my work.
